Grenache. What can I say…It’s my favourite and Shatter does not disappoint. Right away you are drawn in by the bold image of shattered glass on the label. It compels you to grab it off the shelf. When you realize its a french wine you are immediately taken aback as French wines aren’t known for their design prowess. Then you crack open the bottle…. Beautiful ruby coloured with a bouquet reminiscent of wooded forest in spring after a brief rainfall. It’s a refined wine that shows off the terroir of the hillsides in which it was born. It has just enough fruit to satisfy the palette without becoming too jammy. Lovely fruit characteristics bounce off your tongue right away.
The 2010 vintage was around $20-25 and was a great bottle of wine both for the price and in general. I’m looking forward to trying the 2011.
