About the Cru
I’m Mandy, he’s Aaron. We like wine. We like it a-laught. Our love affair with the nectar of the Gods started some 13 years ago when we found ourselves included in a group of lovely doctors and pharmaceutical reps whom were friends of the “rents” and hosted very extravagant, dare we say indulgent, wine tastings. Free booze and fancy appys for struggling post-grads? Score. We’re in!
We quickly found that this brave new world surpassed the doldrums of Coors Light and Mickey’s hand grenade drink-offs and rather than spending our Saturday nights committing to cheap vodka mixed with whatever mystery juice that happened to be left in the refrigerator, we were courting high class dames. We were immersed head first into French burgundy and Bordeaux, Napa Cabernet and Merlot, Mosel Reisling, and even South African Pinotage among many other epitomizations of fine wine. When embarking on wine purchases in the “real world” of a newly married couple it goes without saying that we had to lower our standards a bit. Or should I say, a lot. Bargain bin Yellowtail became our “go to” wine and I still cringe in recalling the time I bragged to a tasting room employee at Hess Winery in Napa Valley that it was officially our house wine. Eh, what can you do, we were young and green.
But what our humble, and not so humble wine beginnings gave us was an appreciation and sound foundation in value and quality. We continued our immersive education by taking yearly trips to California wine country and through such have met some amazing people, learned a whole lot about grapes and how fun it is when you squish ’em, put ’em in a barrel with some yeast and let it ride, and how sometimes too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. Well, a messy thing for sure.
We even pursued the passion for knowledge in all things wine to the point of obtaining a winery license and starting our own “garage” winery in our hometown of Castle Pines, CO with grapes sourced from that previously mentioned wine mecca, Northern Cali.
Our adventures have taken us to Vancouver, BC where we live full time with our two young children. We are both ecstatic to explore the burgeoning wine scene here on Canada’s gorgeous west coast and hope you enjoy the ride with us. For both of us, wine is life. When indulged responsibly it can be a finessed companion, a dog ear for life’s highs and lows, and if nothing else, a trusty wingman.
